Pass the Academy’s written and practical exams, complete your assigned research branch and submit the thesis.
Pack for the whole quest
- Mage at Job Level 40 or higher.
- Spend all remaining skill points. Job Level 50 gives you the full first-job skill pool.
- 70,000 Zeny registration fee, waived at Job Level 50. You may instead submit an Old Magicbook and Necklace of Wisdom.
- Research supplies depend on your assigned professor; gather them after the practical exam.
- Change to Sage.

Register at the Academy
Speak to the Staff of the Academy. Pay 70,000 Zeny or submit 1 Old Magicbook and 1 Necklace of Wisdom. At Job Level 50, ask for the exemption.
If you choose the discounted fee conversation, record the extra material list before leaving: that route costs 30,000 Zeny plus the assigned supplies.

Speak to the Practical Examination Professor and join the waiting room. Clear the aggressive Fabres and Chonchons, then the Lunatics. In the last wave, defeat the active central Whisper. Use elemental magic against its Ghost property.
Return to the professor after passing. He assigns History, Physics or Biology. Complete only your assigned branch in the next step.

History: show the History Professor a Yggdrasil Leaf, Seed or Berry, then listen to the lecture. A Yggdrasil Leaf is sufficient.
Physics: bring 30 Stones. Receive the elemental materials, then provide 50 Crystal Arrows, 50 Stone Arrows and 50 Arrows of Wind. Bring 1 Holy Water for the next part. An Archer can use Arrow Crafting to make the arrows.
Biology: present the assigned aquatic specimen set and then the assigned insect set, five of each item. Listen to the full lecture after both checks.

Give your assigned professor 1 Feather of Birds, 1 Animal Skin, 1 Trunk, 1 Squid Ink and 1 Empty Bottle. Complete the thesis dialogue and take the Book.
For History, choose Yormungandr, Utgard, Midgard and Asgard, then the giant ash tree with three roots reaching Asgard, Jotunnheim and Niflheim. A Yggdrasil Seed restores half HP and SP. For Physics, choose the elemental cycle and the statements about adapting spells, resting and working with other classes. For Biology, reproduce the lecture’s descriptions of aquatic and insect monsters.
Become a Sage
Take the completed thesis Book to the Dean of the Academy in Juno’s castle/library building. Submit it and finish the graduation conversation. You become a Sage here, after the research and thesis are complete.
