Rune Knight Job Change
Endure the battlefield, learn rune identification and finish Velpino’s equipment-restricted combat test.
Pack for the whole quest
- Knight or Lord Knight, Base Level 99 and Job Level 50 or higher.
- Spend all remaining skill points before applying and before the final promotion.
- If you are still an ordinary second job, complete rebirth first to retain access to transcendent skills. Transcendent characters can train to Job Level 70 before changing.
- Remove your Peco Peco before the final promotion.
- Velpino’s trial permits only a weapon and shield, or a two-handed weapon, and at most 400 carried weight before receiving test runes.
- Change to Rune Knight and the job quest’s equipment rewards.

Speak to the Splendid-Looking Knight in Prontera’s tavern and express interest in the Rune Knights. Accept his invitation to meet Jungberg.

Fight the monsters during the five-minute test. When a Rune Knight calls for help, click that knight to trigger the assisting effect. Stay alive and clear the remaining enemies. Report back to Lunarea, then the captain.
Study the three rune books
Speak to Renoa. Read all three books completely: Runes and Rune Knights, The Principles of Runes, and Runes, Make & Use. Return to Renoa and accept the trip to Serpeone.

Speak to Sage Serpeone in the expedition camp before hunting. Kill 10 Dullahan, 10 Disguise, 10 Quve and 10 Heirozoist. Use their database pages for the Niflheim spawn maps.
Return to Serpeone when all four quest counters are complete. Ask for transport back to the Rune Knight gathering place, then report to Renoa.

Use the Rune Furnace. Read the color and shape, then type the exact rune name from the table. Repeat until twenty runes have been created successfully, then speak to Renoa and the captain.

Use the supplied defensive runes to stay alive and the attack runes to damage the successive opponents. Complete the test and speak to Velpino again. Let him remove unused test runes, then speak once more to register the pass.
A failed attempt has a ten-minute retry wait. After the wait, obtain a fresh set of test runes from Velpino and retry.
Become a Rune Knight
Dismount, spend any unallocated skill points and report to the Rune Knight Captain. Finish the promotion and collect the Rune Circlet and Green Apple Ring.

Collect the captain’s additional exam reward
Speak to the captain once more after becoming a Rune Knight. If you already left the hall, return through the Rune Knight Staff in Glast Heim. Collect the reward selected by your exam result: an Energy Rune Guard, Magic Stone Ring or Rune Plate. This is the last reward conversation.
